What characteristics should sustainable housing have?

A sustainable home must have several characteristics to ensure its durability, resource savings and energy efficiency. In addition, if you are looking to certify the building to guarantee its quality and sustainability, you should also follow the following list to meet the requirements:

Efficient Energy

Use renewable energy to generate electricity and heat for housing. This will help reduce dependence on fossil fuels and reduce energy consumption.

  • Sustainable energy systems, such as solar panels, wind power generation equipment or heat recovery systems.
  • Isolated energy systems to reduce electrical energy consumption.
  • Installation of energy saving devices, such as LED bulbs and energy saving devices.
  • Teams of efficient ventilation.

Sustainable materials

Use sustainable materials to manage fewer natural resources and not generate waste.

  • Sustainable building materials, such as sustainably certified wood, recycled materials and non-toxic materials.
  • Non-toxic materials and paints for construction to reduce exposure to harmful chemicals.
  • Locally sourced materials to avoid moving sites away from the project.

Efficient faucets and water systems

Use energy saving faucets and a wastewater treatment system to remove contaminants and chemicals, reducing the impact on the environment.

  • Sustainable irrigation systems that use rainwater and not drinking water.
  • Water-saving toilets and faucets.

Airtight buildings

Use insulating and hermetic materials to reduce heat loss and save energy. This will also help maintain a suitable temperature in the home.

Natural lighting and ventilation

Use adequate windows and openings to allow natural light to enter and natural ventilation into the home. This will help reduce electrical energy consumption and maintain a suitable temperature.

  • A correct orientation with respect to the sun, which means orienting it so that it receives direct sunlight during the day to warm it up.

Recycling systems

Use recycling systems to recycle waste and reduce the amount of waste
