Fitwel was created in 2017 by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) in the United States and is currently operated by the Center for Active Design.
Fitwel is a certification system that takes an integrated approach to how design and operations can improve health, happiness, and productivity.

Fitwel certification can be applied to new and existing projects.
To achieve Fitwel certification, a project must reach a minimum score of 90, and there are no mandatory credits—each project decides which credits to pursue.
Costs are divided into: payments to the certifying body (registration + review) and payments to the Fitwel Expert (consultant). Additional costs may range from 0–2% of the project budget for implementing measures required to meet certification.

Fitwel focuses on simple, high-impact interventions for health and wellness. It has less complex requirements than other certifications, allowing projects to achieve wellness benefits with lower investment.
Certification is typically 1–3 months, depending on the project stage, scope, and implementation of strategies required for each star level.
Outdoor spaces, amenities, accessibility to services, indoor air quality, and building management policies are the most relevant for marketing and differentiation.
Yes. Fitwel adapts well to mixed-use and multifamily developments through strategies specific to occupancy type and common areas.
We design relevant indicators (occupancy, health, savings, community acceptance), collect evidence, and prepare summary reports and investor-oriented presentations.
