Project Description

Starbucks Coffee is a commercial location in Peru, with over 250 m² built, part of the country's growing portfolio of retail stores certified under the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standard. LEED is the world's most widely used green building certification system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and administered by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI).

LEED certification for retail spaces and interiors (LEED Commercial Interiors) evaluates criteria such as energy efficiency, responsible water use, indoor air quality, low-impact material selection, and construction waste management, all applied to a high-traffic store format.

What makes this project innovative?

The innovation of this location lies in applying rigorous sustainable construction standards to a high-turnover retail format, where operational efficiency is often prioritized over environmental criteria.

The project stands out for:

• Incorporating low-consumption LED lighting and automated on/off control systems.
• Installing low-flow fixtures and fittings in an intensively used space.
• Prioritizing finishing materials with low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, improving indoor air quality.
• Managing construction waste to maximize recycling and minimize landfill disposal.

Project impact

This location joins a global trend for the brand, which in 2022 celebrated the certification of more than 1,000 LEED stores worldwide according to USGBC, showing that high-turnover retail can operate under rigorous environmental criteria even in markets like Peru.
